146 war martyrs repatriated from Cambodia rest in peace in Tay Ninh
VOV.VN - As many as 146 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in Cambodia were reburied at the Hill 82 Martyrs' Cemetery in Tan Bien, Tay Ninh Province on January 22.
These remains were found and repatriated during the first phase of the 24th search and excavation mission of the dry season 2024-2025.
During the tribute to the martyrs, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Tam solemnly rang the ceremonial bell three times.
Vice Chairman of the provincial government Nguyen Hong Thanh stated that throughout struggles against colonialism and imperialism to defend the nation and fulfil noble international duties, millions of Vietnamese people fought valiantly and sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence and unity.
The fatherland will forever honour and remember their heroic contributions, he stressed.
He emphasized that although war has passed, bringing joy and a new life, joy remains incomplete as long as there are unknown martyrs yet to return to their homeland.
This is a source of pain and an unfinished responsibility for those who are living today, he said.
In recent years, Military Region 7 and Tay Ninh’s authorities, military, and residents have prioritized searching for and repatriating the remains of heroic martyrs from Cambodia. .
With the support of the governments and people of Vietnam and Cambodia, as well as the assistance of the Cambodian military and administrations of Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, and Oddar Meancheay provinces, teams K70 and K71 have searched for and repatriated many remains of martyrs who sacrificed their lives while performing international missions.
In the first phase of the 24th mission, from November 7, 2024, to January 10, 2025, teams K70 and K71 found, retrieved, and repatriated 146 remains, though none have been identified.
