14 rescued fishermen on sunken boat brought ashore safely

VOV.VN - All 14 Vietnamese fishermen rescued by a German flagged ship from a sunken boat in the waters off the coast of Binh Thuan province, southern Vietnam, have been brought ashore safely.

Coast Guard vessel 4034 of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command, Region 3, docked at Vung Tau port of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on November 21 morning, carrying the 14 rescued fishermen on board. The fishermen were then handed over to relevant agencies and their families.

The fishing vessel broke up and sank amid strong winds at 3:30am on November 20, in an area about 92 nautical miles northeast of Binh Thuan’s Phu Quy Island. The crew members clung to the floating parts from the original vessel to survive.

Notified of the incident, the Binh Dinh People’s Committee asked the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the High Command of Coast Guard Region 3, and the Vietnam People’s Navy to quickly send personal and equipment to save the fishermen. It also deployed to a team to coordinate with Binh Thuan authorities in the search and rescue.

The German flagged ship named Barzan en route from China to Singapore rescued all the fishermen.
