135 people killed in traffic accidents across seven days during Tet

VOV.VN - Up to 214 traffic accidents occurred throughout Vietnam during the first seven days of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival. The annual festival which began on February 2 saw 135 people killed and 189 others injured in road traffic accidents.

The figures were released during a working session held on February 9 between the Hanoi Traffic Police Division and Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee.

Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, requested that policemen avoid working on traffic congestion and concern themselves with drivers who are potentially high on drugs.
Mr Chung witnessed a ceremony deploying police forces across the capital  aimed at maintaining traffic safety during the Tet holiday.
Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung extends his warm festive greetings to police forces over Tet.
Immediately after Tet there are numerous festivals taking place. This means it is a peak time for police forces undertaking their duties in traffic safety.
Mr Chung wished police forces good health and success.
