All of the cases were logged in several provinces and cities, with the majority recorded in Ho Chi Minh City, said the ministry.
Since November 2023, the number of new cases in the southern metropolis has increased rapidly. Most notably, among them was one death due to immunosuppression.
The General Department of Preventive Medicine revealed that the median age of monkeypox patients is 32, with 92.9% being men. About 63% of monkeypox patients are also living with HIV, while 46% of cases were suffering from other sexually transmitted diseases.
Monkeypox is currently listed as a Group B infectious disease in Vietnam, meaning it is capable of spreading quickly and causing death.
The disease is primarily transmitted from person to person when the first symptoms appear. It is mainly spread through direct contact, including sexual intercourse, as well as through large respiratory droplets.
Patients and individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever and acute pustular rashes on their genitals, palms, legs, body, and face should immediately seek medical attention for timely monitoring and guidance. They should also self-quarantine and refrain from any sexual intercourse.
