11 stevedores in distress off Binh Thuan coast brought ashore

VOV.VN - The border guard of Binh Thuan province and the Port Authority of Binh Thuan have successfully brought ashore 11 stevedores on board a vessel in trouble in the area off the province’s coast.

Vessel Xuyen A 126 (Trans-Asia 126) flying the Vietnamese flag that was transporting 2,600 tonnes of fertilizers and approximately 7 tonnes of DO fuel sent a distress signal when it was traversing the coast of Binh Thuan early on March 10.

The vessel en route from Can Tho to Quy Nhon with 11 stevedores on board was said to be in danger of sinking.

After hearing the news, Superdong Phu Quy I and SAR 413 were immediately deployed to the scene to rescue the vessel in distress.

At 04:30 on March 10, all 11 stevedores of vessel Xuyen A 126 boarded Superdong Phu Quy I and were shortly taken to Phan Thiet port.

Currently, vessel Xuyen A 126 is located about 0.5 nautical miles from the shore, near Ke Ga Cape. The engine room is being flooded.

According to the captain of the vessel, all oil tank valves have been locked.

Relevant agencies are working on plans to handle the incident in order to prevent a possible oil spill.
