100 pigs culled after African swine fever outbreak in Quang Tri
VOV.VN - The Quang Tri Sub-Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has culled 100 pigs after they were found infected with African swine fever.
At around 1 p.m. on April 4, officers from Livestock and Animal Health Station No. 7 under the Quang Tri Sub-Department, in coordination with police in Nam Dong Ha ward, stopped and inspected a truck on Dien Bien Phu Street.
The vehicle, driven by Vu Van Bien, a resident of Bac Dong Hung commune, Hung Yen province in northern Vietnam, was found transporting 100 pigs. Of these, two had died, while the rest showed symptoms including red skin, lethargy, rapid breathing and yellow urine on the vehicle floor.
Test results from pooled samples confirmed that the pigs were positive for the virus causing African swine fever.
The driver failed to present animal quarantine certificates for the pigs. All pigs were buried to eliminate the source of infection.
