100 houses in Yen Bai inundated by heavy downpours
VOV.VN - Approximately 100 houses in Yen Bai city have been left submerged in floodwater following a spell of heavy rain triggering localised flooding.
According to information released by the Commanding Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of the northern province of Yen Bai, between 19:00 p.m. on November 7 to 11:00 a.m. on November 8, Dong Tam ward of Yen Bai City recorded rainfall of 124.6 mm, while Co Phuc town of Tran Yen district saw 103.6 mm of rainfall.
A period of torrential rain also flooded six roads, severely impacting transport in the locality. More than 63 hectares of corn fields were left destroyed by the impact of the weather.
Various authorities of wards and communes also mobilised forces in a bid to help affected people move their property to safer locations along with cleaning up their houses once the water has receded.
Furthermore, other northern provinces and cities also experienced low temperatures in the early morning of November 8 due to the onset of a cold spell.
Temperature stood below 17 degrees Celsius in the region and 10 degrees in the northern mountains, according to information given by the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
Hanoi will see temperatures at between 15 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius over the coming days, while temperatures in the mountainous town of Sa Pa will plummet to between nine degrees Celsius and 12 degrees Celsius.
Due to the impact of the cold spell and an eastern wind disturbance, provinces from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa will also experience periods of rain from today, with this set to last until November 11.
