Young officers from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia visit tri-border marker
VOV.VN - A delegation of young officers from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia on May 28 visited the tri-border marker shared by the three countries, learned about its history and joined exchange activities at the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Friendship Cultural House in Bo Y commune, Quang Ngai province.
The delegation also presented gifts to disadvantaged families and underprivileged students in the locality.
At the tri-border marker, the young officers were introduced to the site’s history and major State-level diplomatic activities held there.
Construction of the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia border marker began on November 29, 2007, and the site was inaugurated on January 18, 2008. Since then, it has hosted several major political and diplomatic events, including the first provincial-level Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Border Friendship Exchange in November 2018 and the first Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Border Defence Friendship Exchange held in December 2023 in the former Kon Tum province, now Quang Ngai province.
Activities held at the tri-border marker have helped strengthen political trust, foster friendship and solidarity, and promote cooperation and mutual understanding among border protection forces, local authorities and people living in border areas of the three countries. These efforts have contributed to building a border area of peace, friendship, stability and development shared by Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
Second Lieutenant Sengsouliya Ounlasy from the Lao delegation said he was deeply moved to visit the tri-border marker and learn about its history, which reflects the solidarity and friendship among the three countries and their people.
As a young officer, he said he would continue improving his professional knowledge and contribute to strengthening friendship and good neighbourly ties among the three countries, thereby contributing to regional stability and development.
According to Major Som Sambo from the Cambodian delegation, the tri-border marker symbolises the solidarity shared by Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, which has been nurtured across generations.
Cambodian young officers came to value even more the solidarity among the three countries through the visit and would continue promoting the role of younger generations in preserving and building a region of “peace, friendship, cooperation and development”, Cuong said
After visiting the tri-border marker, the delegations joined exchange activities at the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Friendship Cultural House in Ta Ka village, Bo Y commune. The facility was a gift from Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence on the occasion of the first Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Border Defence Friendship Exchange.
At the venue, the young officers were introduced to the longstanding friendship among the three countries, forged throughout their shared history of national construction and defence.
This relationship is not only one of close neighbourliness but also a symbol of solidarity, loyalty and comprehensive cooperation for peace, stability and development in each country and across the region.
During past struggles for national liberation, solidarity among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia was reflected in the close cooperation and mutual support among the armed forces and people of the three countries. Those sacrifices and support contributed to the revolutionary successes of each nation and helped strengthen friendship among the three countries over generations, turning it into a valuable shared asset for today and the future.
In the current period of peace and international integration, relations among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia have further expanded across politics, defence-security, economy, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges.
In defence and security, the three countries have maintained close coordination in safeguarding border security, combating transnational crime and building peaceful, friendly and developing border areas. Economic, trade and investment cooperation has also expanded, contributing to improving living standards and supporting development in border localities.
The friendship among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia stands as a symbol of sincere international solidarity built on trust, loyalty and the sacrifices of many generations.
At the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Friendship Cultural House, the young officers presented 20 gift packages to disadvantaged students and families in the area, along with 1,000 notebooks and 500 books for local students.
The gifts show solidarity, humanitarian values and friendship among the people and armed forces of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
