Welcome ceremony for Vietnamese President in Vienna

VOV.VN - Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen chaired an official welcome ceremony for Vietnaese President Vo Van Thuong of Vietnam on the morning of July 24 at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna.

Following the welcome ceremony, President Thuong and his Austrian counterpart held talks.
Following the conclusion of talks, the two leaders are scheduled to hold a joint press conference and witness the signing of co-operative documents between the two countries.
Austria represents one of the first European countries to establish diplomatic ties with the nation. The relations between the two countries are in the process of developing soundly across various aspects, with the two countries maintaining contact and exchanges of all-level delegations.

Vietnam makes up the biggest trade partner of Austria in ASEAN. Regarding bilateral relations, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Nguyen Trung Kien said that the relationship between both sides are one of the important relations in Vietnamese ties with Europe.

In 1972, Austria was one of the first European nations to set up diplomatic relations with the nation. Since then, the two countries have deepened their co-operation across a variety of fields, from politics to economy, trade, investment, culture, and education.

Austria is always among the country’s top 10 trading partners in the EU, with two-way trade reaching close to US$4 billion before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.

Austrian Ambassador to Vietnam Hans-Peter Glanzer said that visits at a high political level are important for advancing bilateral relations that have been resumed following the COVID-19 pandemic. 

He said that he sees great potential for further deepening the friendly relations, for example in economic fields and education.
