Vietnam’s initiative to APEC working group meetings

VOV.VN - Vietnam has proposed initiatives at the ongoing APEC working group meetings in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa province, as part of the first APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM1) February 18- March 3.

At a meeting of emergency prepareness working group, a Vietnamese representative reaffirmed Vietnam’s willingness and responsibility in sharing information and experience in natural disaster prevention and learning experiences from other APEC economies. Vietnam proposed to organize a Senior Officials Meeting on natural disaster management within APEC in Vinh city in August.

At a workshop of the working group on corruption prevention and transparency, which discussed the role of social community in fighting corruption, Phan Van Sau, Chief of the Government Inspectorate, said: “The result of workshop will provide input for the APEC working group on corruption prevention and transparency to map out directions or work out commitments to effectively and safely involve society in combating corruption in the near future.”

Nearly 2,000 delegates, who are representatives from 21 APEC economies, international and regional organizations, and companies, are attending a series of meetings within the framework of the first APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM1) in Nha Trang city. 

Established in 1989, APEC now consists of 21 economies, namely Australia; Brunei; Canada; Chile; China; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; the Republic of Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Peru; the Philippines; Russia; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; the United States; and Vietnam.
