Vietnam's foreign and defence policies introduced in Venezuela

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela recently held a presentation on Vietnam's foreign and defence policies with the participation of Ambassador Le Viet Duyen, Defense Attaché in Venezuela, Colonel Vu The Trung, Venezuelan Ministry of Defense representatives, and Defence Attaché of some countries in Venezuela such as Mexico, Russia, China, the Netherlands, Iran, Cuba, and Uruguay.

After giving an introduction about Vietnamese land and its people, as well as the tremendous achievements the nation has recorded in the process of national construction and protection, Ambassador Duyen emphasised that the Vietnamese foreign policy plays an important role in creating and strengthening foreign relations for the cause of international integration. In addition, it serves to create favourable conditions for national construction and defence whilst raising the country’s position within the international arena.

The Vietnamese diplomat also highlighted a number of key points in the foreign policy set out by the 13th National Party Congress, such as carrying out a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, co-operation, development, diversification, and multilateralisation of international relations.

This is addition to promoting the pioneering role of foreign relations as part of both building and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, building a comprehensive and modern diplomacy based on three main pillars, including Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, and citizen diplomacy.

Ambassador Duyen stressed that the country can be viewed as a friend, a reliable partner, as well as an active and responsible member of the international community. The country always promotes the preservation of a peaceful and stable environment, whilst actively participating and playing a role in multilateral mechanisms such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the UN, the World Economic Forum, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and Mekong sub-regional co-operation.

The nation has now established diplomatic ties with 190 countries, including 17 strategic partners, 13 comprehensive partners, alongside four Latin American countries, namely Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina.

For his part, Colonel Vu The Trung provided some information about the Vietnamese National Defence White Paper, including the nation’s organisational structure, defence policy, and foreign defence.

Major General, Defence Attaché of the Mexican Embassy Vicente Javier Mandujano Acevedo thanked the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela for organising the event.

The information introduced by Ambassador Duyen helped participants get a deeper insight into Vietnamese land and people, as well as foreign and defence policies of Vietnam. This therefore contributed to consolidating mutual trust and opening up further opportunities for exchanges and co-operation between the two nations.
