Vietnam’s 79th National Day celebrated in Iran

The Vietnamese Embassy in Iran held a ceremony in Tehran on August 29 to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day (September 2, 1945 - 2024).

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Luong Quoc Huy highlighted the historical significance of the August Revolution (August 19) and the moment when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Over the past 79 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people have won many great victories and achievements in national building, safeguarding and development. From a poor and backward country, Vietnam has become a dynamic economy with high growth. The country's per capita gross domestic product (GDP) is forecast to reach about US$4,500 in 2024. Currently, Vietnam is one of the world's largest exporters of rice, coffee, tea, seafood, footwear, garment-textiles, wooden furniture and electronics.

The ambassador highlighted important milestones in Vietnam and Iran ties, congratulating Iran on successfully holding the recent presidential elections and forming a new cabinet.

He emphasised that Vietnam and Iran have maintained a good traditional friendship, which has been treasured and continuously nurtured by the leaders of the two countries over periods.

Affirming Vietnam's attaching importance to friendship with Iran, Huy expressed his belief that the relationship will continue to see new steps of development commensurate with the two sides' potential and strength.

Addressing the event, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Hassan Sheikhol Eslami extended best wishes to the Government and people of Vietnam on the occasion of the 79th National Day.

Reviewing the 50-year journey of the Vietnam-Iran diplomatic relations, he affirmed that the two countries have a special connection in historical periods and share many similarities such as upholding the value of independence and freedom as well as supporting multilateralism and international law.

He said Iran attaches importance to and is ready to further promote cooperation with Vietnam in many fields.

Within the framework of the event, the embassy screened films about Vietnam's history and culture as well as introduced the country's unique traditional cuisine.
