Vietnam’s 79th National Day marked in Thailand

VOV.VN - The 79th anniversary of National Day (September 2) was celebrated by the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand on August 29.

In his speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung said that for the past 79 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people have resolutely defended the cause of national independence and strived to build Vietnam into a country of peace, friendship, co-operation, and development, therefore making it a beautiful, safe, friendly, and hospitable destination.

He expressed appreciation and gratitude for the valuable assistance shown by partners, friends, and international organizations, all of whom have helped the nation to achieve its successes over the years.

The diplomat hailed the fruitful development recorded in bilateral relations, saying that since the initial establishment of diplomatic ties in 1976, the nation’s strategic partnership with Thailand has increasingly developed in a strong and trustworthy manner. This has brought about benefits to both nations’ people and has made positive contributions to a shared future of peace, stability, collaboration, and sustainable development within and beyond the region.

In early August, Vietnam welcomed Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held phone talks with his Thai counterpart PM Peatongtarn Shinawatra to discuss measures aimed at boosting bilateral ties in the time ahead.

Thailand remains the nation’s largest trading partner within ASEAN and the ninth-biggest foreign investor among the over 140 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with a total investment of roughly US$14 billion.

Co-operation in culture, tourism, education, training, and people-to-people exchanges have been steadily growing, deepening mutual understanding between the two countries’ people.

Ambassador Hung affirmed his commitment to closely co-operating alonside colleagues, partners, and friends in Thailand to safeguard the shared achievements of both sides, while also seeking to expand and deepen the friendship, trust, and mutual understanding that exists between the two nations. This involves stepping up mutually-beneficial ties; promoting the prosperity and well-being of their people; and contributing to peace, stability, and co-operation in the region and throughout the world.

International friends congratulated Vietnam on its recent socio-economic development achievements, he added.
