Vietnamese President starts State visit to Cambodia
VOV.VN - President To Lam and his high-level delegation landed at Phnom Penh International Airport in Phnom Penh on July 12 afternoon , beginning a state visit to Cambodia at the invitation of Cambodian King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni.
Those welcoming the Vietnamese State leader and his delegation included Senior Minister in charge of General Affairs of the Ministry of the Royal Palace Kuy Sophal, Minister of Tourism Sok Soken, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chea Kimtha, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang, officials of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs alongside Vietnamese Embassy staff in Cambodia.
This is the first visit to Cambodia by President To Lam after being elected by the Vietnamese National Assembly to hold a new position.
The Vietnamese State leader’s visit to the neighbouring country is of paramount importance, representing a milestone in consolidating, cultivating and further deepening the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia under the motto "good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability".
This will contribute to consolidating the strategic trust between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), with President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and Senate President Hun Sen, and Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
In a recent media interview ahead of the visit, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet affirmed that the visit will definitely add fresh impetus to developing deeper, more comprehensive and stronger neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive and long-term sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia as well as augmenting cooperation in multilateral frameworks such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Mekong Subregion cooperation mechanisms and the United Nations.
During his visit, President To Lam will attend an official welcome ceremony, meet with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, pay a courtesy visit to Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk and hold talks with President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and Senate President Hun Sen.
He is also scheduled to have talks with Prime Minister Hun Manet, meet with National Assembly President Khuon Sudary, attend a State banquet chaired by King Norodom Sihamoni, visit the Vietnamese Embassy, meet with Vietnamese community representatives in Cambodia and engage in a number of other important activities.
