Vietnamese, Japanese PMs elated at flourishing ties

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Japanese counterpart Suga Yoshihide showed their elations at the growing Vietnam – Japan ties during their phone talks on May 17.

During the talks, both cabinet leader also discussed ways to foster both nations’ extensive strategic partnership.

The Japanese PM congratulated Chinh on his election as Vietnamese Prime Minister and applauded his contributions to the bilateral relations as Chairman of the Vietnam – Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Suga said he hopes that the Vietnamese PM will make greater efforts to deepen the partnership and invited him to soon visit Japan.

In response, Chinh showed his appreciation for Japan’s effective cooperation and assistance toward Vietnam’s development and expressed his willingness to visit Japan again at an appropriate time in the future.

To further enhance practical and effective collaboration, the Vietnamese government leader suggested both sides focus on five cooperation areas. They include developing infrastructure facilities in terms of transport, the environment, and digital transformation, having access to supply sources of and technology transfer on vaccines against COVID-19, encouraging Japanese investment in Vietnam for supply chain diversification, support industry development, and innovation in association with technology transfer, and increasing the grant of scholarships and reception of Vietnamese interns to work in Japan.

Suga affirmed his nation’s consistent policy of placing importance on relations with Vietnam, and pledged continued support for Vietnam in infrastructure development, especially in the fields of transport, energy, environment, and space cooperation.

Japan will offer Vietnam maximum support and collaboration to ensure that the nation has its necessary amount of COVID-19 vaccines.

During the process of promoting supply chain diversification, the waves of Japanese investment into Vietnam have increased sharply, he said.

He expected Vietnam to improve its business climate and expressed his willingness to assist the Southeast Asian nation in digital transformation and IT development. He also promised to step up efforts to soon receive Vietnamese trainees, and continue supporting Vietnam in training high-quality human resources moving forward.

The pair consented to intensify strategic dialogue between Vietnamese and Japanese ministries, sectors, and localities, and coordination to deal with issues arising in the bilateral relations.

They said they will work hand in hand in holding a range of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the two nations’ diplomatic relations in 2023 on a par with the strategic partnership.

The two PMs also compared notes on regional and international issues of shared concern, including the East Sea issue, and concurred to go ahead with closer coordination at multilateral forums, particularly at the United Nations and ASEAN.
