Vietnamese Government chief meets Singaporean President

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh showed his elation at visiting Singapore in his capacity as the Vietnamese Government leader for the first time, during a meeting with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob on February 9.

President Yacob hailed the significance of PM Chinh’s visit as marking the start of celebrations this year for the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership, contributing to the strong and substantial development of the mutual relationship.

Both sides expressed their great satisfaction at the dynamic development of joint ties across multiple areas. The two leaders consented to deepen pillars of co-operation, especially in politics, economics, national defence-security, education and hi-quality training, people-to-people exchanges, tourism, maritime connectivity initiatives, as well as new fields in Industry 4.0.

The Singaporean President hailed the operation of the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP) in Vietnam, duly thanking the Vietnamese Government for facilitating Singaporean firms to conduct business in the country.

Recalling her positive impressions upon visiting VSIP Bac Ninh last October, she affirmed that it represents a successful model of bilateral collaboration.

In response, PM Chinh vowed to encourage Singaporean enterprises to develop VSIPs in a green, smart, and energy-friendly manner, as well as working to open more VSIPs in localities in outlying areas to improve the even development of regions.

He therefore suggested that both sides swiftly sign a bilateral labour co-operation agreement.
Furthermore, both sides also pledged to bolster links at multilateral forums such as the ASEAN, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and the UN, while continuing to build a stable, united, and strong ASEAN Community.

They agreed to co-operate to ensure ASEAN’s central role and common stance on regional and global issues, including the East Sea issue. This is along with fully complying with the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) towards reaching a practical and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
