Vietnamese FM upbeat about growing ties with Nepal

VOV.VN - Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung showed great joy over the positive development of bilateral ties with Nepal while receiving Dhan Bahadur Oli, non-resident Ambassador of Nepal to Vietnam, who came to present his credentials in Hanoi on December 13.

During the meeting, FM Le Hoai Trung congratulated Ambassador Oli on presenting his credentials to President Luong Cuong, officially beginning his tenure in Vietnam.

Minister Le Hoai Trung praised the long-standing traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Nepal, noting that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of both nations’ diplomatic relations.

He expressed his satisfaction with the positive development of bilateral ties in recent years, particularly following Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan’s official visit to Nepal in August 2025.

Trung emphasized that shared cultural and religious values, especially Buddhism, along with a common outlook on regional and international issues, form an important foundation and bond that strengthens the friendship between the two countries’ people.

Building on 50 years of strong bilateral ties, FM Trung proposed closer coordination to fully tap potential and advantages, thus deepening cooperation across all fields.

He asked the ambassador to enhance connections between ministries, agencies, businesses, and associations through delegation exchanges or online forums, deepening mutual understanding. He suggested soon establishing a consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries, considering negotiations and signing key agreements to create a stable cooperation framework, including trade and investment agreements.

The Vietnamese diplomat also proposed building ties between the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and encouraging airlines to open direct or convenient connecting routes between the two countries.

On this occasion, Trung also asked Ambassador Oli and the Nepalese government to support the Vietnamese community in Nepal, ensuring favorable conditions for living, studying, and doing business.

Ambassador Dhan Bahadur Oli thanked FM Trung for his attention and support for bilateral relations. He shared an overview of Nepal’s situation, noting the country’s efforts to stabilize internally and prepare for elections in early 2026.

The ambassador added that the Nepalese government and people are striving to achieve socio-economic development goals, aiming to move out of the least-developed country group by 2027.

He stressed that Nepalese leaders highly value relations with Vietnam and hope to learn from the nation’s experience in socio- economic development and international integration.

Ambassador Oli affirmed that he would develop concrete plans to augment bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, science and technology, culture, tourism, education, and training, while intensifying people-to-people exchanges.

Host and guest confirmed continued close coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially regarding elections to key United Nations bodies.

FM Trung wished Ambassador Oli a successful tenure and expressed confidence that, with his experience, the ambassador would perform his duties effectively as a contribution to the strengthening of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Nepal.
