Vietnamese and Lao NA committees seek broader co-operation

VOV.VN - Visiting head of the Economic, Technology and Environment Committee of the Laotian National Assembly (NA) Linkham Douangsavanh held working sessions on July 13 with heads of the Committee for Economic Affairs and the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment of the Vietnamese NA.

The meetings were held as part of activities during the working visit to Vietnam by the Laotian NA’s delegation led by its Vice Chairman Sommad Pholsena.

During the course of the working sessions, both sides examined ways in which to ramp up ties between the two respective NA committees.

Vu Hong Thanh, head of the Vietnamese NA’s Committee for Economic Affairs, expressed his wish to strengthen the friendly co-operation that exists between the two committees in particular and the two legislative bodies in general. This would therefore promote the exchange of delegations and experts; organising workshops to share experience in developing and verifying laws, resolutions and ordinances of the NA; training personnel; and supervising investment and business activities of enterprises.

In his meeting with the Laotian official, Le Quang Huy, head of the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, said he hopes that the two committees will strengthen ties within the framework of joint co-operation between the two NAs.

Moving forward, the committee is ready to co-operate and share expertise in legislation, supervision, and decision-making on a range of important issues with the Laotian side in areas that it is in charge of, Huy said.

For his part, Douangsavanh said Vietnamese experience in law making and macroeconomic management is valuable and can be studied and applied in socio-economic development in Laos.

Agreeing with the proposals put forward by the Vietnamese officials for boosting links between the Vietnamese committees and the Laotian agency, Douangsavanh suggested the agencies quickly sign a memoranda of understanding on co-operation. This will contribute to tightening relations in terms of politics, economy and trade, technology, environment, management, and exploitation of natural resources and minerals between the two countries.

He also urged the agencies to share information and views, closely co-ordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, as well as strengthening the organisation of training courses on issues of shared concern.
