Vietnam, Vatican agree on continued maintenance of high-level exchanges and contacts
VOV.VN - Vietnam and the Vatican have consented to continue to effectively maintain high-level exchanges and contacts and promote the role of the Holy See's Resident Representative in Vietnam, thereby helping the relationship between the two sides achieve more important progress.
The statement was made by Doan Khac Viet, deputy spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry's regular press conference held on April 11 in Hanoi in reply to reporters' questions about the visit to Vietnam by Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican's Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations and Vietnam - Vatican relations.
The nation’s ties with the Vatican have seen positive developments in recent times, through visits and contacts of senior leaders of the two sides, with the results achieved in the negotiation rounds of the Vietnam-Vatican Joint Working Group, especially the two sides having officially upgraded their relationship to the Permanent Representative of the Vatican in Vietnam from July, 2023.
The Vatican diplomat is paying an official visit to the country from April 9 to April 11 during which, he has held meetings with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.
