Vietnam, US reach consensus on trade deal framework, push for deeper ties
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump discussed bilateral relations and reciprocal tariff negotiations during their phone talks on the evening of July 2 (Hanoi time).

The two leaders voiced satisfaction with the strong and positive progress in Vietnam–US ties. They welcomed the negotiating delegations of both sides reaching consensus on a joint statement that outlines a fair and balanced framework for a reciprocal trade agreement.
President Trump praised Vietnam’s commitment to offering preferential market access for US goods, including large-engine automobiles. He affirmed that his nation would significantly reduce reciprocal tariffs on a range of Vietnamese exports and pledged to continue working with Vietnam to resolve outstanding trade issues, particularly in areas of mutual priority.
The Vietnamese Party chief called on the US to soon recognize Vietnam as a market economy and lift export controls on certain high-tech products.
The leaders also discussed major orientations and measures to further enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US in the coming years. They consented to intensify contacts and delegation exchanges at all levels, and to augment cooperation in trade, investment, and especially in breakthrough fields such as science and advanced technology.
On this occasion, General Secretary Lam reiterated his invitation for President Trump and his spouse to visit Vietnam, while expressing his wish to meet the top US leader again soon.
Trump thanked Lam for the invitation and said he also looks forward to seeing the Vietnamese Party chief in the near future.
