Vietnam, Uruguay deepen party-to-party and parliamentary cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina, concurrently accredited to Uruguay and Paraguay, Ngo Minh Nguyet, had a working session in Buenos Aires on October 27 with a delegation from the People's Participation Movement (MPP), a member party of Uruguay’s ruling Broad Front (FA) coalition, led by legislator Victor Aldaya.

At the meeting, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet spoke highly of the sound cooperation between Vietnam and Uruguay across various fields over the past three decades, highlighting in particular the ties between political parties, including those between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and Uruguay’s leftist parties such as the Communist Party of Uruguay and the MPP, both part of the ruling Broad Front alliance.

She expressed the wish for stronger exchanges and cooperation between the CPV and Uruguayan parties, as well as enhanced parliamentary cooperation through the Vietnam-Uruguay and Uruguay-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Groups, of which legislator Aldaya is a member.

Ambassador Nguyet also noted that Vietnam is working with authorities in Montevideo to build a statue of President Ho Chi Minh at the Vietnam Park of the Uruguayan capital, and to install a bronze plaque honoring him at Montevideo Port, one of his stopovers during his overseas journey for national salvation in 1912.

For his part, legislator Aldaya voiced admiration for the courage and sacrifice of the Vietnamese people throughout their history of national defence and liberation, as well as for the remarkable political, socio- economic development achievements Vietnam has made since reunification, especially its outstanding progress over nearly four decades of Doi Moi (Renewal).

He affirmed his resolve to further promote the sound relations between the CPV, the MPP, and the left-wing Broad Front as a contribution to the growing partnership between the two nations.

The MPP is one of the key components of Uruguay’s leftist Broad Front coalition. Established in 1989 with roots in the Tupamaros guerrilla movement, the party is closely associated with former President José “Pepe” Mujica (2010-2015), who is well known for his simple lifestyle and progressive ideals. Current President Yamandu Orsi, also a member of the MPP, continues Mujica’s political legacy, focusing on social justice, sustainable development, and expanding welfare for the Uruguayan people.
