Vietnam upbeat at flourishing ties with Malaysia

VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh showed his elation at seeing the flourishing development of bilateral relations across multiple areas with Malaysia at a meeting held on August 7 with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof.

On behalf of the State and people of Vietnam, NA Vice Chairman Dinh expressed sincere gratitude to the Malaysian Government for assigning Deputy PM Yusof to attend the recent state funeral for late General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong.

The meeting saw the Vietnamese legislator suggest that Malaysia focus on expediting the implementation of agreed-upon contents and promptly finalise negotiations and sign other important agreements on defence, security, and education to creatine a foundation and framework for broader ties between the two countries and further strengthening and deepening the Vietnam-Malaysia Strategic Partnership.

NA Vice Chairman Dinh called for combined efforts to elevate bilateral trade turnover to US$18 billion in a balanced direction, facilitate greater import and export activities whilst minimising the application of trade barriers, and strive to soon sign a co-operation agreement in the field of Halal food in the time ahead.

The official also stressed the need to enhance understanding and reinforce solidarity that exists between the people of the two countries through promoting co-operation programmes on human resources training and development in the fields that the two sides have strength, whilst offering favourable conditions for citizens of each country.

For his part, Deputy PM Yusof agreed with Vietnamese legislator’s proposals for boosting the relations between the two countries and their parliaments, thereby suggesting that the legislatures bolster linkages and exchanges between their bodies and legislators. The Malaysian politician is also keen at the prospect of enhancing co-operation between ministries, sectors, and localities of the two countries.

There remains huge potential for both sides to work together in the Halal food sector, the Malaysia said, adding that the Vietnamese side should establish an agency for Halal food, which could refer to Malaysia's standards, models, and production processes of Halal food.

Deputy PM Yusof affirmed that Malaysia's Halal food promotion agency remains ready to share experience and send experts to support the country in this field.

The Malaysian official noted that with the nation’s great potential for developing green energy, both sides can expand bilateral ties, as well as partnerships within ASEAN, following co-operation models of EU member states.

The same day saw Puan Noor Izlina Idris, senior manager of Putrajaya Holdings, receive the Vietnamese NA delegation, during which he outlined the great value in the strong relationship between both sides in recent times.

Collaboration between Putrajaya Holdings and Vietnamese partners has obtained plenty of accomplishments, he noted, expressing the desire to seek Vietnamese partners for investment and specific co-operative activities, whilst exploring Vietnamese firms, especially in fields like urban development.

NA Vice Chairman Dinh welcomed Putrajaya Holdings' enhanced co-operation with Vietnamese partners in the field of urban planning.

Expressing his positive impression of Putrajaya, the administrative city of Malaysia invested by Putrajaya Holdings, NA Vice Chairman Dinh welcomed the firm's strengthened co-operation with Vietnamese partners in the field of urban planning. He stated that the nation is also looking to implement this model.

The country represents Malaysia's only strategic partner in ASEAN, while Malaysia is the second-largest trade partner of the Vietnamese side in the bloc and the 11th in the world. The two countries closely co-operate in regional and international forums such as ASEAN, the UN, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and others.

The relationship between the two countries’ legislatures continues to be fostered both bilaterally and multilaterally as a contribution to fostering bilateral ties. In March, 2023, the two sides jointly celebrated the 50th founding anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
