Vietnam, UK step up cooperation in security, home affairs

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Nguyen Hoang Long affirmed the country’s readiness to share information and boost the comprehensive, effective, and intensive co-operation with the UK in matters of security and home affairs during a meeting held with UK Home Secretary Priti Patel on July 19.

Ambassador Long hailed the ongoing collaboration between both sides over recent times, with acts of co-operation in security and home affairs continuing to be the main pillars outlined in the "Joint Statement on the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership: Development Orientation in the Next 10 Years" in 2020.

Patel used the event to thank the Vietnamese side for their co-operation in handling specific issues aimed at facilitating people-to-people exchanges and raising mutual understanding, for the sake of both peoples.

She went on to underscore the necessity of official co-operation activities between the two countries, whilst also striving to improve the capacity and skills of relevant agencies in the implementation of joint co-operation schemes.

The Vietnamese diplomat went on to suggest that the British minister create optimal conditions for the Vietnamese community and students to live, work, and study in the UK, whilst making further contributions to the bilateral friendship and collaboration.

In response, Patel pledged support to Vietnam, the Vietnamese Embassy, and Ambassador Long in realising concrete measures which can boost the strategic partnership.
