Vietnam, UAE examine ways to further improve cooperation efficiency

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Hanoi on June 14.

The talks were part of the UAE Foreign Minister’s working visit to Vietnam from June 13-14 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of both nations’ diplomatic ties.

At the meeting, FM Bui Thanh Son expressed his pleasure to welcome his UAE counterpart’s third official visit to Vietnam, while affirming that the visit of FM Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan is of great significance as it takes place right after the visit to the UAE by Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan last May.

FM Son affirmed that the recent exciting exchange of delegations at various levels between the two countries is a clear demonstration of the positive development momentum in bilateral relations, especially when both nations celebrate their 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year (1993 - 2023).

UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed his impression with the socio-economic achievements that Vietnam has achieved in recent times.

Appreciating the increasingly important role and position of Vietnam in the region and in the world, the UAE diplomat affirmed that UAE leaders wish to strengthen relations with Vietnam, considering the country as one of the important partners in Southeast Asia.

The two FMs highly appreciated the positive developments in the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and the UAE since the second political consultation between the two foreign ministries held last February, especially in potential fields such as politics - diplomacy, economy - trade, investment, oil and gas, renewable energy, and tourism.

On that basis, the two sides assessed that Vietnam and the UAE still boast huge potential to further improve the efficiency of cooperation in the coming time, and agreed on measures and plans that the two countries need to coordinate to improve the efficiency of bilateral cooperation.

In terms of politics, the two sides agreed that it is necessary to enhance the role of the two foreign ministries, intensify the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations to create a breakthrough in bilateral cooperation.

They consented to actively coordinate and offer mutual support at multilateral forums, improve the effectiveness of the political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries, enhance the role of Vietnam and the UAE in the relationship between ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Vietnam welcomes the UAE to host the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), and stands ready to cooperate with the country for the success of the event.

In terms of economy, trade and investment, the two sides agreed that it is essential continue making efforts to soon finalize the negotiation and signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2023 in a bid to create a breakthrough in economic cooperation.

The two diplomats applauded the results of recent business delegation exchanges between the two countries, and concurred to continue promoting the connection of businesses, localities and investment funds of the two sides.

Both sides consented to expand cooperation in other potential fields such as oil and gas, renewable energy, innovation, sustainable development, environmental protection, climate change response, training of human resource, tourism, agriculture, and Halal industry.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of both nations’ diplomatic ties, the two sides agreed to coordinate in organizing cultural and sports activities, intensifying people-to-people exchange activities in order to further tighten the friendship between the two countries’ people.

Within the framework of the talks, the two FMs witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the UAE’s Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA).
