Vietnam, Tuvalu establish diplomatic relations
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Tuvalu have officially established diplomatic ties, with Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and Tuvalu’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Labour and Trade Paulson Panapa signing a joint communiqué at Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York on May 24 (local time).

With the signing, Vietnam has become one of the few countries worldwide to establish diplomatic ties with all 193 UN member states.
Following the ceremony, Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and Minister Paulson Panapa discussed orientations to promote bilateral relations. The two sides affirmed that the joint communiqué marks a historic milestone laying the foundation for cooperation, and agreed to pursue specific activities in areas of potential such as marine economy, tourism and education. They also agreed to work closely together at multilateral forums of which both countries are members.
On the occasion, Le Hoai Trung invited Paulson Panapa to visit Vietnam, and the Tuvaluan minister accepted with pleasure.
Tuvalu, a small island nation in the South Pacific, had established diplomatic ties with 123 countries, including six ASEAN members-Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia, before setting up relations with Vietnam.
