Vietnam steps up co-operation with Cuban Ministry of Interior

VOV.VN - Politburo member and Minister of Public Security To Lam hosted an official welcome ceremony on May 15 for a high-level delegation of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cuba led by Lieutenant General and Politburo member of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas who is currently on a working visit to Vietnam.

Immediately after the welcome ceremony, the two sides held talks, during which Minister Lam emphasised that the visit of the Cuban Interior Ministry's delegation is of great significance as it is the first ministerial visit made by the Cuban Ministry of Interior since 2010, with this making an important contribution to the relationship between the two countries in general and between the two ministries in particular.

Minister Lam expressed his pleasure that the traditional friendship between the two countries and ministries has been maintained; increasingly consolidated; and developed on the basis of trust, understanding, respect, fraternity, and comrades-in-arms.

Since the middle of 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic was brought under control, links between the two ministries was quickly resumed in terms of delegation exchange, security, technical logistics, and health care.

Criminal activities, especially transnational crimes, high-tech crimes, and other types of non-traditional crimes, are becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to deal with, meaning the expansion and strengthening of co-operation between the two ministries has become increasingly urgent for the interests and national security of each nation.

On that basis talks between the two sides have increase the exchange of experience, equipment, and capacity building training for police officers, especially in relation to protection techniques such as detecting and preventing terrorist plots.

They agreed to co-operate in the research and production of drugs, vaccines and biological products, including those that have been successfully researched and put into treatment for patients in Cuba.

Minister Lam affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security’s readiness to exchange experience and consult with the Cuban Ministry of Interior on policies on national building and protection, saying that Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security will continue to stand side by side, share, and be ready to provide wholehearted support for the Cuban Ministry of Interior.
