Vietnam seeks to enhance parliamentary cooperation with Venezuela

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Tran Quang Phuong on September 3 received a delegation of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) led by its Vice President Jesús German Faria Tortosa, on the occasion of their visit to Vietnam to attend the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2).

Phuong emphasised that the delegation’s presence in the celebration demonstrated the close relationship between Vietnam and Venezuela, and thanked the Venezuelan people for their valuable support for Vietnam in the past struggle to defend the Fatherland and the current national construction and development cause.

He affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the bilateral relationship that late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez and generations of Vietnamese leaders have actively cultivated, while believing that Venezuela will continue to be one of the important economies in the Latin American region.

Sharing the challenges Venezuela is facing, Phuong expressed his belief that with the Bolivarian revolutionary spirit, the PSUV will lead the Venezuelan people to overcome all difficulties, firmly protect the achievements of the revolution, and contribute to the leftist and progressive movement in the South American and Latin American regions.

The Vice NA Chairman suggested that the two countries increase the exchange of delegations to continue bilateral cooperation in areas of strength, promote the coordination of the two legislative bodies to strengthen collaboration, and exchange experiences in making and enforcing laws, building a rule-of-law state, and perfecting institutions to serve the development of each country.

The Vietnamese NA is ready to welcome high-ranking leaders, and support and create a favourable legal corridor for investment and business activities of the two countries’ enterprises.

Phuong emphasised the importance of further enhancing the role of the legislative body in strengthening bilateral relations. He urged support for the prompt ratification of cooperation agreements to create a comprehensive legal framework for long-term collaboration, particularly in the areas of economy, trade, tariffs, investment promotion, and protection. Additionally, he highlighted the need for effective monitoring of the implementation of signed agreements.

It is essential to create favourable conditions to support the business community as well as people living, studying, investing and doing business in each country, and facilitate the exchange of tourists, students, cultural and sports events. It is also vital to promote coordination mechanisms at multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and support each other's positions on regional and international issues of mutual concern, he added.

For his part, the PSUV Vice President said that the similarities in politics, ideology and revolutionary cause of the two peoples have created ties in the past and opened up cooperation in the future.

On that basis, Venezuela and Vietnam need to continue promoting relations between the two Parties, States, parliaments and peoples; and focus on promoting and strengthening cooperation in economic and trade fields commensurate with the bilateral political relations.

He also expressed his hope that Vietnamese enterprises will continue to invest in production and business in Venezuela, while affirming that his country always creates the best conditions for Vietnamese firms.
