Venezuela press briefing highlights Vietnam’s August Revolution significance

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela held a press conference on August 22 to inform the Venezuelan press and friends about the profound historical significance of the August 1945 Revolution and provide updates on Vietnam’s achievements after 80 years of national construction and development.

The press conference drew the participation of a large number of journalists representing Venezuela’s major media outlets.

In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Trung My recalled the historic milestones since August 19, 1945, stressing that the core ideology of the August Revolution, under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh, was national independence associated with socialism. This, he emphasised, was not merely a political slogan but a guiding principle for a unique revolutionary path- the one that simultaneously liberated the nation from foreign domination and laid the foundation for a just, equal, and prosperous society.

According to the Ambassador, world history is a series of stories about the powerful rise of colonised peoples, emerging from the shadows of oppression to reclaim freedom. Revolutions such as Vietnam’s August Revolution and Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution were not only military victories but also powerful evidence of one truth that oppressed nations can indeed rise up and determine their own destinies.

At the event, journalists and scholars raised numerous questions related to the historical significance of the August Revolution, Vietnam’s socio-economic development over the past 80 years, particularly during nearly four decades of Renovation (Đổi mới) and international integration, as well as issues concerning the traditional Vietnam–Venezuela relationship.

Notably, beyond asking questions, many journalists and scholars also shared insights and reflections on the global impact of the August Revolution and its similarities with Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution. A reporter from Ultimas Noticias highlighted that the most striking resemblance between the two revolutions lay in the pivotal role of the people. In Vietnam, peasants, workers, and intellectuals all joined the struggle, creating the strength of the entire nation. In Venezuela, the working class and the poor have been the backbone of social movements, grassroots organisations, and democratic elections. Both were “bottom-up” revolutions, in which the people were not mere beneficiaries but the true makers of history.

Meanwhile, a reporter from Correo del Orinoco observed that despite differences in historical and cultural contexts, Vietnam’s August Revolution and Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution share remarkable similarities. Both were founded on deep patriotism and a strong aspiration for self-determination, with the ultimate goal of delivering a better life for the people based on equality and justice. Moreover, leaders of both countries recognised that true independence required addressing fundamental social and economic issues.

Speaking about activities to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, a reporter from Latin America’s multinational media network TELESUR noted that TELESUR and Vietnam Television (VTV) recently held an online meeting to coordinate coverage of Vietnam’s major celebrations, including the live broadcast of the September 2 military parade and civic march in Hanoi.

“Since its establishment in 2005, TELESUR has consistently covered and promoted the image of a heroic Vietnam in its struggle for independence and its development in the new era, as well as stories about President Ho Chi Minh, helping audiences across Latin America gain a deeper understanding of Vietnam and its people,” a TELESUR representative affirmed.

On bilateral relations, a reporter from Globovision Television expressed confidence in the prospects for Vietnam–Venezuela cooperation. With strong political will from both sides, Vietnam’s dynamic and fast-growing economy, and Venezuela’s recent stabilization and economic recovery, along with significant untapped potential, bilateral economic relations are expected to further flourish and reach new heights, commensurate with the sound political ties. This, the reporter stressed, would serve the interests of both peoples and contribute to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in both countries and regions.
