Vietnam, Russia boost defence co-operation
VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of National Defense Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Central Military Commission, held a meeting on June 26 with Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko.
The Vietnamese Deputy Minister emphasised that the nation continues to place great importance on the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership that exists with Russia, whilst always identifying developing relations with Russia as one of the top priorities in its foreign policy.
Simultaneously, the Russian defence official affirmed that the recent official visits made to the country by leaders of the United Russia Party, the Federation Council, and the Government of Russia have contributed to strengthening and developing relations between the two sides across a multitude of fields, in which defence ties are an important part.
Along with the positive development of the comprehensive strategic partnership that exists between the two countries, the defence co-operation relationship continues to be effectively deployed in areas such as delegation exchange, training, and scientific research within the framework of the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center, military technology, and military history.
Deputy Minister Chien suggested that moving forward, the two sides will continue to promote the achieved results and effectively implement the 2023 Defence Cooperation Plan, especially the external activities of the two defense ministries’ leaders. This includes the sixth National Defence Strategy Dialogue at the deputy ministerial level and the Standing Meeting of the Coordination Committee on the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center.
He also requested that the Ambassador continue to pay close attention to, provide support, and promote bilateral defence contents as means of contributing to consolidating the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership that exists between the two countries.
Ambassador Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko received the opinion of Deputy Minister Chien at the meeting and affirmed that the Russian Ministry of Defense always wishes to strengthen links with the Ministry of Defense of Vietnam, in accordance with signed co-operation documents.
In his capacity, the Ambassador will report back to the country to best prepare for the upcoming foreign activities of the defence ministries’ leaders.
