Vietnam respects UN Charter’s principles

(VOV) -Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga has reaffirmed the nation’s strong commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter at an open debate of the Security Council on February 23.

Ambassador Nga said Vietnam is strongly committed to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, and always positively contributes to combined efforts for regional and international peace, stability and security. 

“Vietnam is working with other ASEAN members and partners to develop and adhere to mutually agreed principles and codes of conduct, and settle all disputes, including the East Sea issue, by peaceful means, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.  We are doing our best to build an ASEAN Community and a Southeast Asian region of peace and prosperity and believe that peace and diplomacy, law and reason will prevail”, Nga said. 

She noted that the UN and its members have ceaselessly worked to reign in wars and conflicts, increased international cooperation for development and for the promotion and protection of human rights, promoted the progressive development of international law, and strengthened democracy and justice in inter-state relations.

The debate on “Maintenance of international peace and security: Reflect on history, reaffirmed the strong commitment to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the UN” was organized at China’s initiative.
