Vietnam regards US as one of its most important partners: Party chief

VOV.VN - Vietnam considers the US one of its most important partners, Party General Secretary To Lam said while receiving Scott Strazik, President and CEO of US energy equipment firm GE Vernova, in Hanoi on March 9.

The Party leader welcomed Strazik on his visit to Vietnam and spoke highly of the company’s investment and business results in the country, noting their contributions to Vietnam’s development and to Vietnam-US relations over more than 30 years of the group’s operations in Vietnam.

The Party chief expressed the hope that cooperation between the two countries will continue to develop in line with their comprehensive strategic partnership. Economic, trade, investment, science and technology, and innovation cooperation remain key drivers and serve as examples of mutually beneficial cooperation in international relations.

To Lam also recalled his positive impressions of his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House during a visit to the US to attend the inaugural session of the Gaza Board of Peace.

During the meeting, the two sides held substantive discussions and agreed on orientations for developing bilateral relations in the coming period.

The Party leader stressed that Vietnam consistently values and creates favourable conditions for US energy companies to invest and operate in the country, thus bringing practical benefits to the people and businesses of both nations and contributing to the development of bilateral ties.

He welcomed GE Vernova’s decision to organise the annual “Future Energy Leadership” conference in Vietnam, saying the event covers many practical topics. Vietnam stands ready to serve as a bridge and gateway to expand cooperation between GE Vernova and countries in the region, particularly ASEAN member states.

To Lam underlined the crucial importance of energy for Vietnam’s development goals and encouraged GE Vernova to build on its experience to expand cooperation with Vietnam in energy infrastructure, technology and human resources.

He noted the company could become an important partner in implementing Politburo Resolution No. 70 on ensuring national energy security to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

For his part, Scott Strazik congratulated To Lam on his re-election and the success of the 14th National Party Congress, and said he was honoured to be received by the Party leader during his first visit to Vietnam in his capacity as head of GE Vernova.

Strazik shared his satisfaction with the cooperation results and the strong development of GE Vernova in Vietnam over the past three decades, describing them as a solid foundation for the group to introduce new ideas and strategic cooperation projects in the country.

He added that the vision of Vietnam’s leadership, together with the country’s open policy environment and strong economic growth, has been a major source of inspiration for the group.

Strazik said GE Vernova selected Vietnam as the first Asian country to host its annual energy conference, bringing together more than 100 leaders from leading global energy corporations and marking the start of a new phase in the company’s cooperation with Vietnam and the region.

He also affirmed the group’s readiness to act as a bridge between businesses and governments of the two countries, while supporting Vietnam in ensuring energy security and fulfilling its socio-economic development goals.
