Vietnam praises UNDP’s role in cooperation for sustainable development
VOV.VN - An interactive dialogue between UN member states and Alexander De Croo, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, took place at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York on February 4, with Vietnam highlighting the agency’s practical contributions to development cooperation.
In his opening remarks, De Croo stressed that the global development landscape is facing multiple structural challenges, including escalating conflicts, the increasingly severe impacts of climate change, inequality and declining trust in multilateralism. He affirmed that UNDP would continue to focus on prevention, strengthening resilience, promoting digital transformation and innovation, mobilising sustainable finance, and contributing actively to the reform of the UN system under the “UN80” initiative.
Speaking at the dialogue, Do Hung Viet, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, hailed UNDP’s role and practical on-the-ground contributions, describing the agency as the most concrete representation of the UN for people in many countries, including Vietnam.
The ambassador acknowledged the effectiveness of close cooperation between Vietnam and UNDP, particularly in strengthening disaster resilience and environmental protection.
He reaffirmed Vietnam’s support for the priorities set out in the UNDP Strategic Plan for 2026-2029 and called on the agency to further support the country in implementing the Just Energy Transition Partnership, advancing science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and the application of artificial intelligence as key drivers of sustainable development.
Regarding UN system reform, the head of the Vietnamese mission urged UNDP to continue playing a leading role in strengthening system-wide coherence and coordination, based on practical lessons drawn from the “Delivering as One” initiative carried out in Vietnam. The Vietnamese representative also underscored the importance of maintaining stable core funding to ensure the effectiveness of UNDP’s operations, particularly in the field.
