Vietnam praises Philippines for settlement of fisherman issue
VOV.VN- Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Hai Binh has praised the Philippines President’s decision to release 17 Vietnamese fishermen,saying it is a humanitarian decision.
At the Vietnam Foreign Ministry’s regular press briefing on November 3, Binh said the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union would work with their Chinese counterparts to organize the 3rd Vietnam-China Youth Festival from November 7- 10 in Vietnam.
The official said the event is aimed at fostering friendship and increase mutual understanding and trust between the two countries’ younger generations thus deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership.
During the talks between President Tran Dai Quang and his Philippine counterpart, the Philippines informed about the release.
The Vietnamese Embassy later held working sessions with the host authorities to make a list of fishermen, and the form and time for the release.
The Foreign Ministry also asked localities and the Border Guard High Command to stand ready to welcome fishermen back, Binh said.
