Vietnam positive on all-around partnership with US
VOV.VN - The comprehensive partnership between the nation and the United States is currently witnessing strong developments across multiple fields, bringing practical benefits to the two peoples.
This can be seen through increasingly close ties in fields such as economics, trade, investment, maritime security, education and training, climate change adaptation, along with science and technology.
Tran Tuan Anh, politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, made the statement on September 6 during a reception held for US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry in Hanoi.
Anh expressed his pleasure at having the chance to both meet and work with Kerry, a special friend to Vietnam, expressing great appreciation for his dedication in various positions as a contribution to fostering comprehensive ties between both sides.
He went on to affirm that the Party and State of Vietnam always consider the US as its most important partner and desires to further deepen the comprehensive partnership on the basis of promoting the positive results that have been achieved. This can serve as a way of developing common interests and consolidating political and strategic trust between the two countries.
Talking to Kerry, the host official highly appreciated the determination of President Joe Biden's administration to ramp up global joint efforts in responding to the threat posed by climate crisis.
He also affirmed the policy and determination of the Vietnamese Party and State to proactively adapt to challenges relating to climate change, meeting international commitments on climate change, implementing policies, and outlining plans and roadmaps for the implementation of strong greenhouse gas emission reduction measures.
After COP26, Vietnamese policies, especially orientations for energy development, have been adjusted and feature many changes consistent with commitments to achieve the net zero emissions target by 2050. In line with this, the nation is also studying a mechanism transformation and investment for green growth and sustainable development, Anh told his guest.
In response, Kerry affirmed that the US places great importance on the comprehensive partnership with the Vietnamese side. It remains highly appreciative of Vietnamese policies, orientations, and achievements in its efforts to achieve climate change adaptation and sustainable development.
The US therefore supports and stands ready to assist the country in this regard, Kerry affirmed, while being confident and optimistic about future prospects of a good relationship between both sides in the time ahead.
