Vietnam pledges to boost co-operation in trans-national crime prevention and control
VOV.VN - The nation pledges to engage actively and responsibly in ASEAN co-operation frameworks and co-operate alongside trans-national crime prevention and control in particular.
Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieut. Gen. Luong Tam Quang made the statement on September 29 while attending the 15th version of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC 15) and related meetings via teleconference.
As part of his speech, Deputy Minister Quang said criminals are making full use of cyber space in order to commit various offences. In this context, Vietnamese law enforcement agencies must strive to assist other ministries and agencies in containing the pandemic, while simultaneously going ahead with its task of combating crimes and yielding positive results, he said.
The Deputy Minister therefore suggested that regional states continue boosting collaboration and creating mutual trust moving forward.
Amid the complicated nature of developments relating to the pandemic, he called on regional countries to pay close attention to ramping up closer co-operation in border management and cyber security.
All concerned parties should therefore establish information channels, adapt to the “new normal”, enhance co-ordination with ASEAN’s dialogue partners in personnel and language training, and encourage partners to assist the bloc in COVID-19 response. This should include providing vaccines, improving vaccine production capacity, and facilitating the transfer of vaccine production technologies, he added.
Minister of Defence II of Brunei and Chair of AMMTC 15 Datu Seri Awang Halbi bin Mohd Yussof underlined the importance of the AMMTC co-operation mechanism as it contributes to maintaining peace, stability, and development throughout the region.
He said Brunei vows to continue enhancing its role in guiding ASEAN in maintaining dialogue, as well as in the bloc’s timely and effective response to unprecedented difficulties and challenges.
Participants at the event agreed on measures aimed at promoting goals in the ASEAN Plan of Action to Combat Transnational Crime, and adopted the Concept Paper entitled “A Regional Border Management Cooperation: Roadmap”. This was initiated by Thailand and the ASEAN Statement regarding post-pandemic trans-national crime prevention and control proposed by Brunei.
At the end of the meeting, officials also adopted the joint statement of AMMTC 15.
