Vietnam, Laos step up defence collaboration
Vietnam and Laos affirmed their commitment to strengthen defence partnership as a new Vietnamese defence attaché officially assumed his duties in Vientiane on September 25.

Paying a courtesy call on Lao Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutanent General Khamlieng Outhakaysone, Colonel Phan Huu Thang, freshly appointed defence attaché, expressed his honour to take up the role in the country, which he called his second homeland.
He pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessors and highlighted upcoming core missions, including consolidating and deepening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties and States, especially defence – security collaboration – a pillar in the bilateral ties.
On this occasion, Colonel Vo Van Thong also paid a farewell call on the Lao minister, marking the end of his more than five-year tenure as Vietnam’s defence attaché. Thong affirmed that the Vietnamese Defence Attaché Office always works closely with the Lao People’s Army to provide effective counsel for the two defence ministries, thereby reinforcing strategic trust and cooperation.
Khamlieng Outhakaysone, for his part, spoke highly of the contributions made by Thang and Thong. He congratulated Thang on his new post and expressed his belief that the Vietnamese officer will continue promoting his bridging role in bolstering the Vietnam – Laos defence cooperation, contributing to consolidating the political trust and special solidarity between the two armies and peoples.
