Vietnam, Laos sign MoU on inspection cooperation

VOV.VN - The two inspection agencies of Vietnam and Laos signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 1 aimed at further improving inspections, the settlement of complaints and denunciations, and anti-corruption efforts.

The signing of the MoU is part of the ongoing visit to Vietnam by a high-ranking Laotian delegation within the framework of the co-operation agreement between the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam and the State Inspection Authority of Laos.

Inspector General of Government Inspectorate Doan Hong Phong showed his elation at welcoming the Laotian inspection delegation amid both sides launching a wide range of practical activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of joint diplomatic relations which began in 1962 and 45 years of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in 1977.

According to Inspector General Phong, the respective inspection agencies of the two countries have signed co-operation agreements five times in 1998, 2005, 2007, 2012, and 2016 in a bid to orientate co-operation activities regarding the inspection settlement of complaints, denunciations and anti-corruption work between the two inspection agencies.

During nearly 25 years of friendly co-operation, through the periodic exchange of delegations and training of inspectors, the two inspection agencies have shared plenty of information and good practices.

As a result of these efforts, the capacity of the staff of both sides has been enhanced, thereby contributing to improving the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the inspection, the settlement of complaints and denunciations, and anti-corruption efforts in each nation.

Inspector General Phong expressed his hope that the two agencies will seek closer co-ordination in the future in order to effectively carry out the terms of the agreement, continue to bolster co-operation, whilst sharing experience and good practices to improve the quality of effectiveness and efficiency of inspection.

In response, Laos State Inspector General Khamphan Phommaphat said he hopes that moving forward the two sides will increasingly seek to strengthen ties across multiple fields on the basis of common interests, helping take the relationship between the two countries and the two inspectorate agencies to new heights.
