Vietnam, Jordan set US$1 billion trade target by 2035
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki El Qadi have agreed that both nations should work toward boosting bilateral trade to US$500 million by 2030 and US$1 billion by 2035 during their meeting in Hanoi on February 3.
At the meeting, the Vietnamese Government chief welcomed the Speaker and his high-level delegation of the Jordanian House of Representatives on their official visit, saying that the visit took place as the friendship and all-around cooperation between Vietnam and Jordan continue to see positive development, particularly following the historic visit to Vietnam by King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein in November 2025.
He expressed confidence that the visit by Speaker Mazen Turki El Qadi would make an important contribution to advancing bilateral relations into a new period of more substantive and effective development.
Amid profound changes in the global and regional situation, PM Chinh stressed that Vietnam and Jordan, sharing many common interests and values as well as parallel struggles for national independence, should further strengthen solidarity and cooperation to open up new opportunities for the benefit of their peoples and for peace, stability and development in their respective regions and the world.
He congratulated Jordan on its development achievements through the implementation of the 10-year “Economic Modernisation Vision”, praised Jordan’s important role in regional peace efforts, and reaffirmed Vietnam’s determination to consolidate political trust and expand comprehensive cooperation with Jordan.
At the meeting, PM Pham Minh Chinh briefed the Jordanian side on the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements during the 2021-2025 period, as well as the country’s strategic development orientations toward 2030 and its vision to 2045.
Speaker Mazen Turki El Qadi and the Jordanian high-level delegation expressed their strong impression of Vietnam’s tremendous economic and social development achievements in recent years, and highly valued Vietnam’s growing position and role in the region and in the international arena.
The Speaker affirmed that Jordan regards Vietnam as an important partner in Asia, and expressed a desire to boost cooperation, sharing and exchanges of experience in areas of mutual strength, particularly agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, defence industry, cybersecurity, Halal production, and science and technology.
He thanked Vietnam for its stance, views and support for the Palestinian people and the two-State solution, welcomed Vietnam’s participation in peace-related mechanisms, and affirmed Jordan’s readiness to serve as a bridge and cooperate effectively with Vietnam in promoting peace and implementing reconstruction and humanitarian programmes in the region.
Building on the political trust consolidated following the visits to Vietnam by the King of Jordan and the Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives, the two sides agreed to intensify the exchange of delegations at all levels and to establish and effectively operate bilateral cooperation mechanisms and frameworks.
These include moving toward the establishment of permanent representative offices in each other’s capitals, holding Political Consultation Meetings, setting up a Vietnam-Jordan Business Cooperation Working Group, and accelerating the signing of key cooperation agreements on visa exemption, investment protection and the avoidance of double taxation.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed invitations to Crown Prince of Jordan Hussein bin Abdullah, and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan to pay official visits to Vietnam.
On economic cooperation, the two leaders consented to work toward increasing bilateral trade turnover to US$500 million by 2030 and US$1 billion by 2035; to further open markets for each side’s competitive products; to support each other in ensuring food security; and to develop the Halal sector.
The Government chief said Vietnam is ready to ensure a stable supply of high-quality agricultural and aquatic products for Jordan, welcomed Jordanian enterprises to invest and do business in Vietnam, and proposed studying the application of Jordan’s coral-reef-based technology to prevent saltwater intrusion.
Speaker Mazen Turki El Qadi proposed the establishment of a free trade zone in Jordan for Vietnamese goods for export to the Middle East, as well as the formation of joint ventures in potential sectors.
The two sides also discussed specific measures to beef up cooperation in healthcare, tourism, education and training, and science and technology. They agreed to strengthen consultation, coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, particularly at major organisations such as the United Nations and UNESCO, and to cooperate in dealing with regional and global issues on the basis of respect for international law and each side’s principled positions.
