Vietnam and Jordan step up legislative exchanges, strengthen cooperation
VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man held talks with Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki Al-Kadi in Hanoi on February 2, discussing measures to enhance parliamentary cooperation and bilateral relations.
Chairman Man welcomed Al-Kadi’s first official visit to Vietnam, noting that it reflects Jordan’s strong commitment to expanding multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, including between the two legislatures.
The senior Vietnamese legislator congratulated Jordan on its development achievements and its role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, reaffirming that Vietnam attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen practical and effective cooperation with Jordan across all fields.
Briefing his guest on the outcomes of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Chairman Man said Vietnam consistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, diversified and multilateral foreign policy, and stands ready to make responsible contributions to peace, stability and cooperation based on respect for the UN Charter and international law.
For his part, Speaker Al-Kadi said Jordan views Vietnam as an “economic and technological development miracle” and is keen to expand unlimited cooperation with the country.
He praised Vietnam’s balanced stance on the Palestine issue and affirmed Jordan’s readiness to serve as a bridge for cooperation between Vietnam and the Middle East, as well as between Jordan and ASEAN.
The two sides agreed to further consolidate political and diplomatic relations, increase exchanges of high-level and parliamentary delegations, step up cooperation between specialised committees, and study the establishment of a Vietnam–Jordan Parliamentary Friendship Group.
They also noted that economic and trade cooperation potential remains large, and agreed to expand collaboration in trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, education and training, health care and technology, while accelerating negotiations and signing of key bilateral agreements to finalise the legal framework and facilitate cooperation.
Vietnam expects that Jordan will provide support for coral reef–based technologies to combat saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta, Chairman told his visiting guest.
The two sides pledged to continue coordinating and supporting each other at multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), contributing a shared voice for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man conveyed his regards and extended an invitation to President of the Jordanian Senate Faisal El-Fayez to visit Vietnam at an early date.
House Speaker Al-Kadi also extended an invitation to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to pay an official visit to Jordan. Chairman Man welcomed the invitation and suggested that the two sides coordinate through diplomatic channels to arrange a suitable time for the visit.
Following the talks, the two leaders signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Jordanian House of Representatives, providing a framework for stronger parliamentary ties in the coming period.
Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki Al-Kadi arrived in Hanoi on February 2 for a four-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
