Vietnam, Indonesia work toward mutual recognition of COVID-19 vaccination certificates

VOV.VN - Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son has expressed his wish that Vietnam and Indonesia will work towards mutual recognition of COVID-19 vaccination certificates to facilitate travel by Vietnamese and Indonesian citizens when conditions permit.

At a reception for Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi in Hanoi on October 11, Son asked the diplomat to help further boost multifaceted relations between the two countries, and congratulated him on being appointed the Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam.

Son affirmed that his ministry will create the best possible conditions for the Indonesian diplomat to fulfill his duties.

At the function, the Vietnamese Foreign Minister underscored the importance of effectively carrying out commitments made by both nations’  leaders so as to develop the close friendship that has been nurtured by both sides’ leaders and people for over the past 65 years, as well as the Vietnam - Indonesian strategic partnership, in an increasingly intensive, extensive, and effective manner, particularly amid complex developments in the global and regional situation.

Son asked the Indonesian diplomat to pay greater attention to stepping up cooperation in multiple fields, including politics, diplomacy, and economy towards elevating bilateral trade to US$10 billion soon. This should be done along with promoting investment in the fields commensurate with both sides’ potential and strengths, developing human resources, and augmenting maritime cooperation.

In response, Abdi stressed that Indonesia always treasures the strategic partnership with Vietnam, while hailing the nation’s socio-economic development achievements. He expressed his confidence that the country will bring the pandemic under full control soon and continue developing in the “new normal”.

He also pledged efforts to realize Son’s directions and coordinate closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese competent agencies to deal with difficulties and practically beef up cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral aspects as a contribution to regional peace and stability.
