Vietnam, India step up UN peacekeeping cooperation

VOV.VN - The nation has joined with India to discuss fresh measures aimed at boosting co-operation in UN peacekeeping activities during the course of an online workshop held on June 17.

Both sides explored ways to continue effectively carrying out a memorandum of understanding signed by the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence and the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in 2016 on collaboration in UN peacekeeping. This is in addition to an agreement on the implementation reached by both sides in 2020.

They therefore consented to send experts to their respective countries to exchange experience, along with sharing information about the missions where Vietnam has deployed forces.

The two countries also announced their intention to launch the Vietnam-India Bilateral Army Exercise (VINBAX) when possible, along with putting a three-year co-operation plan in place.

They pledged to further intensify the exchange of peacekeeping lecturers, along with realising joint activities between Vietnamese and Indian peacekeeping forces in South Sudan.

During the workshop, Colonel Mac Duc Trong, deputy head of the Vietnamese department, stressed the nation’s commitments to playing a more active role in UN peacekeeping activities.

He used the platform to call on India to further assist Vietnam in this regard, whilst expressing confidence that bilateral co-operation will develop in a more pragmatic and effective manner moving forward.
