Vietnam, Hungary enhance comprehensive ties, aim for US$2 billion in trade

VOV.VN - Deputy Foreign Minister Ngo Le Van received Hungarian Ambassador Baloghdi Tibor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi on the afternoon of September 24.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van expressed pleasure at the positive developments in the Vietnam-Hungary Comprehensive Partnership over recent years. He affirmed that amid profound and unpredictable global changes, Vietnam consistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, diversified, and multilateralized foreign policy, in which Hungary is one of the country’s  top priority partners in Central and Eastern Europe. He emphasized that Vietnam always values and seeks to continuously strengthen all-around relations with Hungary.

Appreciating the contributions of Hungarian Ambassador Baloghdi Tibor to strengthening the bilateral Comprehensive Partnership, Deput FM Ngo Le Van asked the ambassador and the embassy to continue closely coordinating with the foreign ministries of both countries.

This includes expediting, promoting, and supporting ministries and agencies in implementing high-level commitments and agreements, and advising on specific measures to build upon the longstanding traditional friendship, leverage respective strengths and new cooperation opportunities, and enhance the efficiency and depth of bilateral relations across all fields, from politics and diplomacy to trade, investment, science and technology, culture, education and training, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals.

Ambassador Baloghdi Tibor expressed delight in meeting Deputy FM Ngo Le Van and thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its close coordination. He affirmed that the new leadership of the Hungarian government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue prioritizing and deepening relations with Vietnam, regarding the country as a key partner in the region.

He agreed to continue efforts to promote the bilateral Comprehensive Partnership and uphold the coordinating role of the two foreign ministries moving forward.

Both sides consented to closely collaborate in arranging and intensifying delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels, especially high-level visits, maintain the deputy-ministerial political consultation mechanism, and leverage the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation to soon raise bilateral trade turnover to US$2 billion per year.

They also encouraged enterprises from both countries to invest in sectors of mutual strength and demand to complement each other, thereby enhancing strategic autonomy and serving the long-term, sustainable development interests of each nation.

The two sides highlighted  education and training as a traditional and high-potential area of cooperation, with more than 3,000 Vietnamese scientific experts and professionals trained in Hungary who now contribute to Vietnam's development and act as a bridge forging the traditional friendship.

They concurred to effectively implement the bilateral scholarship agreement for Vietnamese students and soon discuss expanding cooperation in this vital sector, including specialized training in law and other disciplines.

On this occasion, Deputy FM Ngo Le Van asked Ambassador Baloghdi Tibor to convey regards and an invitation to visit Vietnam from Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung to Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Orban Anita.
