Vietnam-Hessen cooperation adds extra impetus to relations with Germany
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Consul General in Frankfurt Luu Xuan Dong and President of the Hessian Parliament Astrid Wallmann have discussed strengthening cooperation in diplomacy, justice, education, culture, economy, and labor during their meeting in Hessen.

Vietnam’s Consul General in Frankfurt Luu Xuan Dong on September 11 paid a working visit to Astrid Wallmann, President of the Hessian State Parliament, at its headquarters, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany (1975–2025).
According to the Hessian Parliament’s official website, Hessen has maintained a strategic partnership with Vietnam since 2012, covering cooperation in science, education, and economic development.
Vietnam is now one of Hessen’s most important trading partners in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Education initiatives are also underway, notably the Vietnamese-German University in Ho Chi Minh City, established in 2008 on Hessen’s initiative in co-operation with Germany and Vietnamese governments.
During the meeting, Parliament President Astrid Wallmann underlined that close ties with partners in Asia are vital to Germany’s prosperity and future development. She stressed that diverse connections in education, culture, and business are enriching bilateral relations and paving the way forward. She welcomed the opportunity for the two sides to deepen this close and friendly exchange through ongoing dialogue.
For his part, Consul General Luu Xuan Dong praised the achievements of Vietnam–Hessen cooperation and discussed plans to further boost ties in diplomacy, justice, education, culture, economy, and labor. The two sides also agreed to continue coordinating activities marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany, with a particular focus on promoting Vietnam’s image and culture in Hessen.
Both sides expressed satisfaction that, within the broader positive framework of Vietnam-Germany cooperation, Vietnam–Hessen relations are developing dynamically and effectively.
In economic terms, bilateral trade in recent years has reached about EUR1 billion (US$1.17 billion), accounting for roughly 10% of Vietnam–Germany trade. Many Hessian companies have invested successfully in Vietnam, including Bilfinger & Berger, Messer, Sanofi-Aventis, Fresenius, and Commerzbank.
A flagship project in bilateral educational cooperation, the Vietnam-Germay University, established on Hessen’s initiative, has been operating effectively, contributing to the development of high-quality human resources in Vietnam.
Hessen is also seeking skilled workers from Vietnam. Minister-President Boris Rhein proposed that the two sides capitalize on favorable conditions created by Germany’s recent adoption of the Skilled Immigration Act to expand labor cooperation, thus enabling Vietnamese workers to take up employment in Hessen while helping the state tackle its labor shortages.
