Vietnam, Germany look to boost strategic partnership

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul discussed ways to further reinforce the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership during their phone talks on June 2.

Son congratulated Wadephul on his recent appointment and highlighted Germany’s important role and global influence as a leading member of the European Union. He reaffirmed that Germany is one of Vietnam’s key partners in Europe.

Expressing satisfaction with the recent positive momentum in bilateral relations, Son proposed major directions to deepen cooperation across various fields, including politics and diplomacy, trade and investment, science and technology, education and training, sustainable development, and people-to-people exchange.

For his part, Wadephul hailed Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and voiced his appreciation for the progress in bilateral ties. He affirmed Germany’s desire to strengthen its friendship and broader cooperation with Vietnam, stressing that the German Government and business community are ready to work with Vietnam in priority areas, particularly the energy transition.

Both sides underlined the importance of upgrading the bilateral relationship in the near future. They agreed to enhance mutual market access, push for the early ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and expand science and technology cooperation as a key pillar of the strategic partnership.

Priority areas include clean energy, nanotechnology, quantum technology, semiconductors, and digital transformation. They also pledged to step up co-operation in education and vocational training.

The two ministers consented to closely coordinate activities marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025 and to prepare for upcoming high-level visits and exchanges.

Regarding regional and international issues of shared concern, including the East Sea, both sides reaffirmed their support for resolving conflicts and disputes through peaceful means and dialogue, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.

On this occasion, Deputy PM Son extended an invitation to Foreign Minister Wadephul to visit Vietnam, with the invitation graciously accepted.
