Vietnam greatly values friendship with Bhutan

VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang hosted a reception for Queen Mother of Bhutan Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck on December 28 in Hanoi, during which the host affirmed that the Vietnamese side will always place great importance on its strong friendship with Bhutan.

Upon welcoming Bhutan’s Queen Mother to visit Vietnam for the first time, Deputy Minister Hang said that although the two countries established their diplomatic relations just over 10 years ago, bilateral ties and co-operation have grown positively, with a specific bright spot being tourism partnership.

She therefore thanked Bhutan for supporting the Vietnamese candidacy to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2023 to 2025 tenure, expressing hope that the Queen Mother and the Royal Family of Bhutan will continue to promote ties with Vietnam at both international and regional forums, especially UN bodies.

In response, the Queen Mother said that she was greatly impressed at the strong level of Vietnamese growth in all aspects. Indeed, she showed admiration for the nation, its people, and spirit of Vietnam during its historic struggles for national defence and its current process of national development.

She noted that after Bhutan opened its doors once again for visitors earlier this year, the Vietnamese market has become the second largest source of tourists to Bhutan with 6,000 visitors.

During the course of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue increasing the exchange of delegations, as well as bilateral partnership in terms of economics, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. The two countries will strive to work together to establish a direct air route in the near future.

As part of the occasion, Deputy Minister Hang conveyed the best regards of Vietnamese leaders to King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema.
