Vietnam, Finland elated at flourishing ties

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto showed their elation at the positive development of relations between the two countries during their phone talks on December 22.

The Finish diplomat congratulated Vietnam on its successful control of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and expressed his confidence that the two sides will overcome the impact of the pandemic to further promote bilateral ties moving forward.

The two sides agreed that Vietnam and Finland will resume mutual exchange visits as soon as conditions allow while still maintaining bilateral cooperation mechanisms. 

The pair also discussed a score of measures to boost bilateral economic, trade and investment links following the enforcement of the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) as well as examined ways to step up cooperation in highly potential areas such as education-training, science-technology, development cooperation, and the environment.

The Finnish minister congratulated Vietnam on its successful performance as Chair of ASEAN in 2020 and greatly valued the nation’s role, position, and efforts as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.

Minh asked Finland to continue its support for and sharing with Vietnam in issues of shared concern within the frameworks of the UN and other multilateral forums.

He assured Vietnam’s readiness to serve as a trustworthy bridge between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the EU.
