Vietnam desires to further enhance strategic partnership with UK

VOV.VN - Vietnam always values and seeks to further strengthen its strategic partnership with the United Kingdom, a key partner of Vietnam in Europe, said Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung during his phone talks with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on the evening of October 18.

During the phone call, Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung congratulated Secretary Yvette Cooper on her assumption of the new and important post and expressed satisfaction with the effective cooperation between the two countries across all fields in recent years.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper shared that the UK places great importance on enhancing friendship and cooperation with Vietnam. She expressed confidence that, with Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung’s collaboration, the two foreign ministries would continue to play an effective coordinating role in bilateral cooperation and jointly boost cooperation across multiple fields towards elevating bilateral relations to a higher level.

Secretary Cooper also emphasized that the UK Foreign Ministry would go ahead with close cooperation, effectively implement exchange programs, high-level visits, and contacts between the two countries as well as between their respective ministries and agencies.

Recognizing the positive developments in the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership, Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung and Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper agreed on the need to timely review cooperative activities, reinforce coordination, closely follow action plans under the strategic partnership framework, accelerate the implementation of existing agreements, negotiate and sign new cooperation documents, and create a favorable legal framework to further boost cooperation in a variety of aspects.

They highlighted that these efforts aim to bring bilateral relations to a new stage, meeting the expectations of the peoples of both countries, and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region and the world.

On this occasion, Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung extended a cordial invitation to Secretary Yvette Cooper to visit Vietnam at a mutually convenient time. Secretary Cooper expressed her wish to meet Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung in person soon to discuss issues of mutual interest.
