Chief Justice Le Minh Tri’s UK visit deepens bilateral judicial cooperation
VOV.VN - A high-level delegation of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam, led by Le Minh Tri, member of the Party Central Committee and Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, paid a working visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from October 13 to 16.

The visit is designed to establish cooperation with the UK Supreme Court; study the organizational structure and operation of the UK court system; learn about commercial dispute resolution, especially at international financial centers; and explore case law and judicial training practices.
As part of the visit, Chief Justice Le Minh Tri held talks with Lord Robert Reed, President of the UK Supreme Court. He stressed that the visit was of great importance as Vietnam is developing a law on specialized courts at international financial centers.
Vietnam values the UK’s extensive experience as a common law country with a well-established reputation in resolving disputes at such centers. The Supreme People’s Court has been receiving effective support from experienced UK experts during the law-making process.
Chief Justice Reed affirmed that the UK judiciary stands ready to share information and expertise in areas of Vietnam’s interest. He presented international best practices related to specialized financial center courts, focusing on jurisdiction, applicable law, trial language, enforcement of judgments, and the appointment and training of judges.
At a meeting with Lady Justice Sue Carr, President of the Courts of England and Wales, Chief Justice Tri discussed adjudication and judicial training. He stated that Vietnam’s Supreme People’s Court is promoting judicial reform, continuously improving trial quality and judge training to strengthen public confidence in the judiciary. Chief Justice Carr welcomed the visit and shared insights into the UK’s practices in trial work and judicial training aimed at building public trust in the justice system.
Chief Justice Tri also met with Lord Justice Richard Snowden of the Court of Appeal to exchange views on drafting the law on specialized courts at Vietnam’s international financial center. Justice Snowden and his colleagues provided in-depth comments on ensuring the distinct nature of such courts, including judicial expertise, applicable law, trial language, and procedural matters.
In his meeting with Alastair King, Lord Mayor of the City of London, Chief Justice Tri expressed Vietnam’s wish for continued support from London as the country works toward developing a strong and modern international financial center. The Lord Mayor briefed the delegation on the City of London’s operations and affirmed readiness to share experience and offer cooperation in applying the UK’s long-standing common law system to help reduce costs and enhance the efficiency of dispute resolution.
The visit took place as Vietnam-UK relations continue to expand across traditional areas such as politics, diplomacy, trade and investment, and education and training, while growing into new fields including energy transition, finance, and high technology. The successful visit contributed to deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries and strengthening judicial ties between their supreme courts.
