Vietnam, Denmark outlines orientations for deepening all-around partnership

VOV.VN - Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan discussed co-operation directions and measures aimed at further promoting and deepening ties of traditional friendship and the comprehensive partnership between the two nations during talks held on November 21 as part of the latter’s visit to Denmark.

PM Frederiksen warmly welcomed the visit by VP Xuan and her high-ranking delegation which demonstrates the Vietnamese State’s recognition of the importance in the relationship between the two countries.

The Danish PM affirmed that the Danish Government greatly values the friendship, co-operation, and comprehensive partnership with Vietnam, viewing the country as an important partner in carrying out Denmark's foreign policy in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in terms of trade and investment.

The Scandinavian country wishes to further consolidate and boost ties between the two nations in terms of economics, environment - climate - energy, and green development, the Danish PM added.

She outlined her belief that the recently-established green strategic partnership will give fresh impetus to the bilateral comprehensive partnership, particularly in the fields of sustainable development and green transition.

In response, VP Xuan affirmed that the Vietnamese sides always places importance on and desires to strengthen the friendship, co-operation, and comprehensive partnership with the European nation.

She expressed her belief that the trip will help to strengthen the comprehensive partnership whilst implementing the freshly-established green strategic partnership for the sake of the two nations' people.

As a means of enhancing bilateral ties moving forward, both sides consented to continue intensifying high-level delegation exchanges whilst co-ordinating with and offering mutual support at multilateral forums.

The Vietnamese VP therefore thanked the Danish Government for advocating Vietnam as the host of the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) summit ahead in 2025.

Regarding trade and investment, both sides agreed that their countries’ governments, ministries, and sectors should encourage Vietnamese and Danish enterprises to implement investment projects in the fields matching Denmark’s strengths and Vietnam’s development orientations, such as renewable energy, marine economy, food processing, and green growth.

VP Xuan used the occasion to call on the Danish Government to raise its voice to prompt the parliaments of the remaining EU countries to ratify the EU - Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), support the European Commission (EC)’s removal of its “yellow card” warning on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing placed against Vietnam’s seafood exports, and to help the Southeast Asian country develop aquaculture towards sustainability.

PM Frederiksen stated that she has always paid close attention to this issue and supports the EC and Vietnam’s discussions on the removal of the “yellow card”.

During the course of talks, the two leaders underlined the need to expand green growth-oriented economic relations whilst bolstering linkages in green transition and climate change response, thus helping with the two governments’ efforts to realise the commitments to net zero emissions, made at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Danish PM assured her guest of her nations’ readiness to work with its Vietnamese partners in the new fields of green transition and just energy transition, especially renewable energy as the European country has rich experience in this field whilst also having the right financial capacity to do it.

Highlighting Denmark’s important assistance to the nation to reach socio-economic development targets and the Sustainable Development Goals, VP Xuan emphazised that the two sides should maintain co-operation to effectively carry out projects on energy, sustainable development, and vocational training, including the Vietnam - Denmark Energy Partnership Programme for 2020 - 2025.

PM Frederiksen hailed the Vietnamese community’s integration into the local economy and society, as well as their substantial contributions to the bilateral relations. She agreed with her guest’s proposal on continuing to offer favourable conditions for Vietnamese people in Denmark to act as a friendship bridge between the two countries.

Concerning regional and international issues of shared concern, VP Xuan highly valued Denmark’s role and voice as part of the international community.

PM Frederiksen noted she was particularly impressed with Vietnam’s strong commitments and role at multilateral forums, with Denmark hoping to join hands with Vietnam to realize the Sustainable Development Goals.

Both host and guest reaffirmed the importance of peace, stability, co-operation, and development in the world; as well as peace, stability, safety, security, and freedom of navigation in the East Sea. They voiced their support for international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

VP Xuan said she hoped PM Frederiksen would make a visit to Vietnam soon at the invitation of PM Pham Minh Chinh, with the offer being graciously accepted.
