Vietnam, China share experience in developing policy on ethnic affairs

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang hosted a reception for Deputy Director of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of China Bianba Zhaxi in Hanoi on June 25, during which Quang expressed his belief that the visit will help foster relations between the two countries in the field.

He highlighted the positive development of Vietnam-China relations and efforts to implement high-level agreements, stressing Vietnam is preparing for the upcoming meeting of the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation in Beijing this September.

Regarding ethnic affairs, the official proposed the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of China and the Government Committee for Ethnic Affairs of Vietnam increase experience sharing in developing policies and mobilising resources to care for ethnic groups. He also suggested holding exchanges between the two countries’ ethnic groups at border areas.

Bianba Zhaxi affirmed his commitment to advancing cooperation in ethnic affairs between the two sides.

Vietnam is home to 54 ethnic groups, while 56 ethnic groups are living together in China. The two countries’ Parties and States have attached great importance to ethnic work, thanks to which the lives of ethnic minorities have increasingly improved.

The State Ethnic Affairs Commission of China and the Government Committee for Ethnic Affairs of Vietnam signed a cooperation agreement in December last year.
